Bhava Tanha; Letting go of Becoming
Bhava Tanha or the desire for becoming, is one primary causes of suffering that the Buddha lays out in the Four Noble Truths. Understanding and being mindful of all the ways that becoming manifests, including in meditation practice, is essential for being able to let it go.
Led by Chas DiCapua – Guiding Teacher at Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA.
Chas DiCapua has been the Resident Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA since 2003. He teaches retreats at IMS and throughout the country, and offers Spiritual Counseling for individuals. Please join us for this one liberating day retreat.
Location: Cape Cod Village, 19 Child’s Homestead Rd, Orleans, MA 02653. Click here for detailed directions. Parking is limited, further info will be provided upon registering.
Schedule: please arrive at approximately 8:45-9:00 in order to set up and be ready to begin by 9:15 a.m.
Cost: the retreat registration Dana (donation) is $27.00 to cover administrative expenses of putting on the e.g. renting of the retreat space.
Please: consider contributing more if you’re able to; Dana (donations) for the teacher will be collected at the end of the retreat. Maintaining the tradition of the long lineage of dharma teachers, Chas offers teachings on a donation (Dana) basis.
What to expect: Our day will include sitting and walking meditation, lunch, guidance and a dharma talk by the teacher, closing circle
Please understand that guidelines are designed to help us create and maintain a contemplative, inner-focused environment and to support our practice.
What to bring:

- A meditation cushion or bench and a yoga mat if you have one, (chairs will be available on site )
- Lunch (there is a refrigerator, fruit will be available), beverage (filtered water for hot beverages will be available)
- Layers of clothing, a shawl or blanket, suitable for inside and outside -i.e., walking meditation etc..
- A commitment to observe the 5 precepts of abstaining from killing (even insects!), taking what is not freely given, harmful or untruthful speech, sexual inappropriateness and use of intoxicants i.e., substances like alcohol, and recreational drugs.
- A willingness to practice “Noble Silence” for the duration of the retreat. Please note that in addition to not speaking, “Noble Silence” practice includes not texting on or viewing cell phones, reading, or writing, and refraining as much as possible from making eye contact with others in attendance.

- Please leave all electronic devices including cell phones, tablets, laptops, “smart” watches etc. in the car or at home.
- Some of us are sensitive to fragrances, we ask that you please do not wear scented hair, clothing or body care products even if they are “natural” or “organic”.
- We love pets too, but please do not bring them along to the retreat.
